With Mark Schwarzer out of favour, captain Gareth Southgate and Franck Quedrue injured and Ugo Ehiogu pending a transfer, the personnel will be largely the same that coceded seven at Arsenal on Saturday.
Emanuel Pogatetz returns from suspension but he may well be employed in midfield where Doriva is missing through suspension and George Boateng, Ray Parlour and Stewart Downing are missing through injury.
The latter two could make a surprise return having appeared for the Reserves last week, but Steve McClaren may not risk bringing them back too soon.
Up front the Boro boss has his usual selection problems with Yakubu, Mark Viduka, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Massimo Maccarone all vying for a starting place.
