Boro team news: v Birmingham

The first change will see the return of Ugo Ehiogu, back after his one match suspension. Matthew Bates will be the unlucky player making way after he proved himself against Liverpool and Tottenham.

In midfield there is a doubt over George Boateng so James Morrison is standing by to play wide on the right, allowing Gaizka Mendieta to move into the middle.

Up front Mark Viduka could replace Yakubu, if the Ghanaian fails a fitness test. He needed eight stitches in a gash on his ankle at half time on Saturday. Massimo Maccarone has been added to the squad and could win a place on the bench.

There is still no official word regarding Manuel Pogatetz' ban, so the Austrian will frustratingly sit out another game.
