Boro tame the Tigers

Boro took a strong team to Hull for their first visit to the KC Stadium, including Juninho, Gareth Southgate and Massimo Maccarone.

Unfortunately the game will be remembered for an injury to the latter, the Italian being stretchered off early in the second half, after landing awkwardly from an aerial challenge.

Boro dominated the first half and could have been comfortable first half leaders if it had not been for some poor finishes, Szilard Nemeth and Maccarone being the main culprits.

The second half continued in much the same vain but was littered with substitutions that did nothing for the flow of the game.

In fact it was an 'illegal' substitution that won the game for Boro, when Doriva replaced Jon Greening with 10 minutes to go. Doriva had started the game but was replaced himself by Mark Wilson after 65 minutes, only to return.

His goal deep into injury time was a delight. A Stewart Downing cross was cleared to the edge of the box where Doriva lashed home the ball off the post to give Boro a deserved victory.
