Boro retain Northern Masters title

Dean Windass was the star man for Boro netting six goals in the four games. He was equal top scorer in the tournament with Newcastle's Peter Beardsley.

Boro opened with a 3-3 draw against Sunderland, Windass getting a hat-trick.

Next up were Newcastle, who Boro beat 3-2, with a late John Hendrie winner, Craig Hignett and Stuart Ripley getting the others.

Boro booked their place in the final with a 4-3 win over Leeds, the goals coming from Hendrie, Windass (2) and Hignett.

Newcastle were Boro's opponents in the final after they overcame Sunderland it the final group game. Boro won the final 4-2, with goals from Peter Beagrie (2), Windass and Ripley, to book their place in the Grand Final.
