Boro Reserves suffer setback

An early Newcastle goal meant that the visitors went in 1-0 up at half-time. Boro made one change at half-time with Matthew Bates taken off on his comeback from injury.

On 58 minutes Newcastle were 2-0 ahead. Boro pulled one back two minutes later through Richard Smallwood. But four minutes later the Teessiders were 3-1 down as a result of an own goal.

Newcastle later added a fourth to give them an impressive looking margin of victory.
