Boro were 2-0 up inside the first eleven minutes with goals from Danny Graham and Adam Johnson, as the young Blackburn side struggled to live with a much more experienced Boro side.
Maccarone scored for the third Reserve game in succession ten minutes before the break as Boro threatened to run away with it.
Boro continued to dominate in the second half but only managed to add one more goal, even after Blackburn were reduced to ten men twenty minutes into the half. Jason Kennedy scored the fourth with just over ten minutes left.
