Kris Boyd returns to the side after having been dropped for last weekend's narrow 1-0 defeat at Swansea.

The Scotland international partners Leroy Lita in attack, and replaces Scott McDonald, who only returned from international duty with Australia on Thursday evening.

Luke Williams and Julio Arca return to the midfield in place of Justin Hoyte, who drops to the bench, and Kevin Thomson, who is nursing a knee injury.

Williams is expected to play at the front tip of a midfield diamond formation, with Gary O'Neil performing a holding role in front of the back four.

There is no place in the side for Marvin Emnes, but the Dutchman, who has only just returned from a loan spell at Swansea, is named on the substitutes' bench.

MIDDLESBROUGH (4-4-2): Steele; McMahon, Bates, Wheater, Bennett; Robson, O'Neil, L Williams, Arca; Boyd, Lita.

MILLWALL (4-4-2): Forde; Dunne, Shittu, Mkandawire, Craig; Henry, Robinson, Trotterm Puncheon; Andrew, Morison.
