After suffering a 63 second setback when Darren Anderton gave Spurs the lead the Boro fought back over the next two hours to progrees to the semi-final.

A goal from Michael Ricketts four minutes from time took the game to extra time. No further goals were scored so, for the second successive round, the tie went to a penalty shoot out.

Spurs took the first penalty. Both sides scored their first three. The home side missed their fourth Boro scored (Scorers: Ricketts, Juninho Zenden and Mills). Thus regardless of how Spurs fared on their fifth strike Mendieta could win the game for the Teessiders.

It was not to be Spurs scored, Mendieta's effort was saved.

So it was sudden death. Taricco hit the post and Queudrue scored. BORO VICTORIOUS.
