Bookies Still Backing Southgate!

Portsmouth new boss Tony Adams is heading into deep water and even goes ahead of 'odds-on cert' Mark Hughes to be the next Premiership manager sacked.

Southgate remains at 12/1, which is suggesting he is a lot safer than many, because Gibbo is not a man to pull the plug when the going gets tough.

Boro are just outside the relegation zone on goal difference after a run of eight games without a Premier League win, but the bookies have Newcastle, Hull City, Portsmouth and West Ham (amongst others) with shorter odds of hitting the drop.

Southgate: "The chairman has been loyal, but then he has seen that we have done behind the scenes what has been asked of us.

"I'm certainly not immune from dismissal and I don't take my job for granted, but the one thing we all have here is a realism about things.

"He knows the different workings from last year and that we have been working hard to try to get results under different circumstances.

"Everybody at the club is aware of the situation, what we are doing and what needs to be done.

"We have to continue doing everything to the best of our ability and strive to reach new standards."
