Two goals from Szilard Nemeth in the first half paved the way for a Boro victory last night.

The second half was a more even event with both teams scoring twice. Carlisle made the score 1-2 with around 15 minutes to go but soon after this Tom Craddock made it 3-1 to Middlesbrough.

Then 16 year-old Josh Walker made it 4-1 before Carlisle scored in the dying minutes.

Stewart Downing on his comeback from the injury, picked up in the United States when on England duty in June, looked comfortable and played for two thirds of the game.

Boro Team:
Turnbull (Knight 60), Reiziger (Grounds 46), Bates, Cooper (Clough 74), Hines, Kennedy, Cattermole, Liddle (Craddock 46), Johnson, Nemeth, Downing (Walker 63)
