Best Start Ever

At this stage last season we had just one point to our name and were only spared being bottom by the fact that Wolves had only managed to score one goal, whereas we had managed four.

Previously our best start had been in the 1999-2000 season when we had three victories and two defeats in the first five games. A home defeat by Bradford was followed by victories at Wimbledon and Derby, before another home victory against Liverpool. With Boro narrowly second in the table, behind Spurs on goals scored, we entertained Leicester at the Riverside, only to be thumped 3-0.

In an up and down sort of season Boro finally finished 12th, amassing 52 points, their highest total in the Premier League to date.

This seasons total of 10 has been acheived with victories against Fulham Crystal Palace and Birmingham, the other point being picked up on the opening day of the season against Newcastle. If only Boro had got something out the the game at Arsenal when we were 3-1 up 10 minutes into the second half.

The start is promising, lets hope the form continues in the league and also in the UEFA Cup, which kicks-off this week with the first round 1st leg tie against Banik Ostrava.
