Beattie Not Always The Favourite Of Stoke Fans!

James Beattie: "I have been here as an away player and got quite a bit of abuse, so it is nice to be on the right side of the fans.

"They have been magnificent at this stadium. Against Manchester City, I couldn't believe how loud they were. I was tempted to ask the bench for some ear plugs because they were deafening me.

"They carried us through. It is quite a compact ground and must be intimidating for away players. That is absolutely brilliant for us. They are our fans and we love playing in front of them."

The 31-year-old won his only England cap six years ago under Sven Goran Eriksson when he played the first half of England's 3-1 defeat to Australia at Upton Park.

James Beattie: "It is nice for people to talk about that and, if it ever happened, it would be a massive bonus.

"This is going to sound quite boring, but I have a job to do here and that is what I came to do. I came to help Stoke stay in the Premier League."
