Banik Ostrava v Boro - Player Performance/Ratings

Last updated : 01 October 2004 By Match Reporter
Middlesbrough went into this game without nine players:
Defenders - Ehiogu, Riggott, Reiziger and Davies
Midfielders - Parlour, Mendieta
Strikers - Job, Viduka, Hasselbaink

Here is how the team did:
Schwarzer - (8) looked comfotable throughout a couple of good saves. No chance to save Banik's goal. Comanded the box more than he usually does and kicking was good.

Parnaby - (7) a good performance but beaten a couple more times than was good for the nerves

Cooper - (8) very, very solid tacled well and blocked anything heading for goal

Southgate (7) was there when needed, drifted out of position a couple of times

Queuedrue (6) his style of play leads him into trouble and often caught lacking as a defender e.g. a handball and a rash sliding tackle to follow his blatant foul when caught lacking against Chelsea that lead to their goal.

Morrison (7) a lively performance on his first start, topped off with a goal

Boateng (8) was always there when needed, supplied cutting pass for the equaliser

Doriva (7) again always there when needed

Downing (8) provided sparks of inspiration and excellent crosses

Nemeth (7) stuck at it, even when reduced to role of sole striker, should have scored

Zenden (7) a very mixed game, created great chance when playing up front but gave the ball away too much when easy passes were on. Filled in quite well at the back for Queuedrue

Sub: Christie (7) only on for seven minutes, looked lively on his return from injury
