Aussies make last 16

Mark Schwarzer was a mystery ommision for the Socceroos as Mark Viduka once again captained the side in a memorable game. The Aussies came back twice to earn a draw against Croatia and book a place in the knockout stage.

A goal down after just 4 minutes they hit back with a penalty from Craig Moore before the break. A howler from keeper Zeljko Kalac gifted Croatia the lead for the second time, but credit to the Aussies, they fought back again and equalised through Harry Kewell with just over 10 minutes left.

They now meet Italy on Monday for a place in the quarter-finals.

England's Graham Poll was the referee and he had a howler, turning down a number of blatant penalty appeals and failing to send off Croatia'a Josip Simunic for a second yellow card. The Croat did receive his marching orders at the death when he was yellow carded a the third time.

Needless to say Mr. Poll will be heading home before the England team.
