Hammers boss Gianfranco Zola is looking to fill the right-back spot next season, but he has yet to pin point who he is after.
Although the newspaper claims: "The Italian sees relegated Middlesbrough's Bates, 22, as the perfect candidate to replace Neill".
Ther has not been one from Zola to confirm the statement.
