A Boro welcome

For those who cannot remember 1966 the North Koreans beat mighty Italy at Ayresome Park in the World Cup, endearing themselves to the public of Middlesbrough.

Documentary maker Dan Gordon, who has arranged their nostalgic return to Teesside, has thrown down the gauntlet to Boro fans to try and beat the magnificent reception the Koreans received from Everton supporters last weekend.

"We took them back to Goodison Park, the scene of their World Cup quarter-final defeat to Portugal last Saturday," said Dan.

"I have to say the reception they received from the Everton fans will take some beating. But I believe the depth of feeling Middlesbrough supporters seem to have for the Koreans is very special. It’s a challenge for them to give our friends a welcome ‘home’ they will never forget."

The Koreans have been on Teesside most of this week taking in the sights, including a number events in their honour. The events culminate with a visit to the Riverside today.

Whether you are old enough to remember 1966 or not I think you should get to the Riverside early and give the Koreans a real Boro welcome.
