A Boro Legend Passes Away

Last updated : 22 September 2004 By Reggie Holdsworth
He had a liver transplant last year and was an inpatient at the hospital. His family was with him when he died.

Cloughie made his name on Teesside by scoring 204 goals in 222 games for Boro before moving to Sunderland where his career was cut short through injury.

He moved into management and will be remembered for the man who won the title with unfashionable Derby County and Nottingham Forest, where he spent 18 years.

He took Forest to the highest level in club football by winning the European Cup in successive seasons. He won just about every honour in the game as a manager, except the FA Cup, which eluded him.

Only last week the campaign to have Cloughie knighted was at the Riverside collecting signatures for the great man.
