Despite the arrival of striker Marlon King on loan from Wigan, the departure of Mido in the opposite direction has done little to boost attacking options.
Middlesbrough are desperate to get Aliadiere back to full fitness quickly, in the hope he will challenge King, Afonso Alves and Tuncay for a first team place.
Aliadiere's goal return is hardly prolific with only three to his name this season, but he would offer options.
Alves has been dropped to accommodate King in the last two matches, despite hitting his best form of the season, but he has hardly proved himself to be worth £12m.
But foreign players need time to settle, something Alves doesn't have.

The striker had managed just three goals in his first 19 appearances of a largely frustrating and disappointing first full season in English football, but just when he started to find the back of the net he was dropped.
