Awaydays is a series of reports from memorable away trips, not so much the matches, but the days out, some good, some not so good. I make no apologies for the accuracy of the facts, a high level of blood alcohol has erased some memories.

As an avid Boro fan, since I was a lad, I have been to a fair few away matches in my time. To date I have visited 70 of the 92 current Football League clubs to watch Boro in competitive action.

Starting as a teenager, my first away trip was to Ipswich Town in the 1979-80 season, a League Cup 2nd round second leg match, Boro were leading 2-0 from the first leg at Ayresome Park, but managed to lose 3-0 on the night to go out.

In the 1995-96 season I managed, for the first and only time, to go to every league match, home and away, with Dickie Mint and Ray, mainly in the 'black bomb' and our lads grey banger. We clocked some miles up that season.

Some literary license has been used to exaggerate events and a slight fabrication of the truth was necessary on odd occasions. Nevertheless, all the characters and events do, or did exist, something like I describe.

If you have any tales of your own which you would like to share with the world send them in to awaydays@mfc1986.co.uk and i'll do my best to include them in the future.
