Top Goalscorers - The Millennium Years

Last updated : 27 July 2006 By Statto
In the era of foreign imports they continue to dominate the scoring charts. Following the continental imports of the late 1990's the trend continued with Alen Boksic, Szilard Nemeth, Massimo Maccarone and Juninho being among the leading scorers. Only Noel Whelan from these shores has challenged the expensive foreign imports.

Alen Boksic was Boro's top scorer for the first two seasons of the new Millennium. The Croatian was an instant hit when he signed from Lazio in 2000 and almost singlehandedly saved Boro from the threat of relegation.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink became the first player to score more than 10 goals in a season since Alen Boksic. Signed on a free-transfer from Chelsea he teamed up with Aussie Mark Viduka to form a formidable early season partnership. Sadly an injury to Viduka meant JFH was left without a regular partner for the latter part of the season.
